#FolkMoMA was a quick crowdsourced protest/impromptu call for ideas to rethink the demolition of the American Folk Art Museum. We proposed it should be incorporated into MoMA’s plans for the site. #FolkMoMA was initiated and curated by Ana María León and Quilian Riano (DSGN AGNC).
The call-to-action was to use an image* of the building, quickly draw/sketch/photoshop/collage into it offering up possibilities for expansion over/under/across that incorporate for building. We used our collective design abilities to tell MoMA what an incredible opportunity they would be wasting.
Hundreds of posts were made on flickr, twitter, instagram and tumblr using the hashtag “#FolkMoMA”. Submissions were aggregated and displayed on the #FolkMoMA website.
*Participants were encouraged to incorporate images and text into one file in order to interpret this call as an opportunity to voice protest and/or suggest alternatives.
